The Cervino CineMountain Film Festival takes place in Breuil-Cervinia and Valtournenche every year, at the end of July. Located at 2000m, the festival has gained the title of the “Highest Festival in Europe.” The objective of Cervino CineMountain is to popularize, enhance and promote mountain films with over 50 screenings grouped into different themes.
The core of the event is the Festival Concorso which aims to select the premier examples of mountain cinematography. It is unique amongst mountain festivals in that it gathers together all of years’ award winning films from other festivals, thus providing the “Oscar of the Oscars” in mountain cinematography.
Since its inception, the main mountain theme of Cervino CineMountain has also supported the presentation of more general themes such as climate, adventure, sport, culture, history, etc. The specific formula, as a sort of “Festival of Festivals,” includes the screening of films that have received recognition or have been selected at the most important cinematic mountain events in the world. This approach ensures screenings of the highest quality and furthermore presents views from all over the world.
The Festival also includes special events, such as the screening of rare movies in cooperation with the regional headquarters of RAI, with the National Cinema Museum of Torino and with FAI (the Italian Environmental Fund).
In addition to this program, the Espace Montagne provides a true social meeting place within the festival and includes a mountain bookshop, a media library, editorial meetings, and topical interviews.... all of this against the backdrop of the imposing wooden pyramid which symbolizes the message of the festival: a mountain that calls us and welcomes us.
