Stambecco d’Oro Festival was created in 1984 and this year reaches its XV edition. It is one of the biggest International Nature Film Festivals and is among the three most important cinematic events in Aosta Valley region.
Fondation Grand Paradis coordinates the organisation of Stambecco d’Oro Festival in cooperation with Ente Progetto Natura (that created the Festival in 1984 and organised it until the year 2009) with the support of Aosta Valley Regional Government and the participation of Gran Paradiso National Park and the municipalities of Cogne, Valsavarenche, Rhêmes-Saint-Georges, Villeneuve, Locana and Valtournenche. Stambecco d’Oro Festival is financially supported by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, by WWF Italy and by LIPU (Italian Association for the Protection of Birds).
From this year’s edition, the Festival broadens its horizons; it will take place in six municipalities: Cogne (the symbol of Gran Paradiso National Park and the heart of the Festival, with two screening venues), Valsavarenche, Rhêmes-Saint-Georges, Villeneuve, Locana Valtounenche (two screening venues, of which one is in Bruil-Cervinia). The aim of FGP is to give continuity to this relevant event, for contributing to the development of nature films and increasing environmental awareness. In 2009 the Festival attracted an attendance of 5,000 people (in three different venues). This year there will be many fringe events over the whole area involved: exhibitions, conferences with internationally renowned speakers (De Rerum Natura cycle of conferences), educational activities and the “Espace Vidéo” workshop, dedicated to nature filming and carried out in cooperation with Nikon.
